SA04487CH: Remote Mounted Oil Cooler
$260.00
This STC is for a remote oil cooler and/or additional oil cooler installation. There are two options for installation with this STC.
Option 1: We have approved the use of Airforms engine baffling along with their left rear baffle oil cooler installation on the PA-22, 20, 19, 18, and 16 aircraft with a Lycoming O-320 or O-360 installed. (This portioin of the installation is currently not available on the PA-12 and PA-14.)
Option 2: The original STC was for an additional or remote oil cooler on the firewall. This portion of the STC requires that you have a forward mounted exhaust installed (i.e. Sutton, Rubbert Aircraft Services, or Dakota Cub) because the oil cooler will be mounted to the firewall. This installation is lighter and more efficient than the original Piper and allows you to use a nose-bowl without the oil scoop (you can use either style nose-bowl). With the oil cooler mounted on the firewall it is not subject to as much vibration from the engine as it would be mounted on the baffling.
Note:
Currently this STC is only eligible on aircraft that have a Lycoming O-320 or O-360 engine installed.
Additional Oil Cooler Option
If your aircraft already had a engine baffling mounted oil cooler and you operate in a hot climate (also works well for floatplanes) you can mount an additional in-line oil cooler that is mounted on the firewall.
This STC is paperwork only. You will get drawings to make the required parts to mount the oil cooler. A Niagra or AERO-Classic oil cooler is used (9 or 10 element).
Applicable models are all Piper PA-22, PA-20, PA-19, PA-18, PA-16, PA-14 and PA-12 aircraft.
